KATE OSMASTON MIBWRTI(Reg.)
ABOUT KATE:
I’m interested in changing the response - not simply helping you understand it.
I’m Kate Osmaston, a Registered BWRT® Advanced Practitioner working with anxiety, trauma, confidence, performance and the psychological patterns that can leave people feeling stuck despite knowing perfectly well what they should think or feel.
My approach is direct, focused and practical.
I don’t believe that somebody necessarily needs months of talking, repeated analysis of the past or an ever-growing collection of coping strategies.
I want to understand what your brain has learned to do automatically - and whether that response can be changed.

I came to this work from the other side of the chair.

Long before I became a therapist, I was an elite equestrian competitor.
Years later, in my 40s, something changed. I lost my confidence about riding and, with it, a much broader sense of confidence in myself. HRT only went so far to addressing this.
The frustrating part was that I knew I could ride.
I had the experience. I could reason with myself. I could tell myself that I had dealt with far more difficult situations before.
None of that changed the way I felt.
I had tried therapy for other things in the past and often found that understanding a problem didn't necessarily alter it.
BWRT was different. It changed the response itself.
I felt like myself again. I could ride without pretending there was no risk, but without my brain treating every possibility as something I needed protecting from.
That experience eventually changed the direction of my professional life.
My practice is much broader than riding.
Rider confidence is one of my specialist areas, not the extent of my work.
I work with clients dealing with anxiety, trauma and PTSD, phobias, confidence and self-belief, grief and major change, chronic pain and physical responses, as well as performance issues in sport, business and other high-pressure environments.
What those problems often have in common is an automatic response that no longer fits the person or the situation they are in now.
That is where my work begins.
Experience matters.
I am a Registered BWRT® Advanced Practitioner and have completed advanced training across the full BWRT methodology.
My specialist work in rider confidence has led to invitations to present at the BWRT World Congress, where I have spoken about both the psychology of rider confidence and my work with riders from beginners through to professional athletes.
I am also the author of Rewriting the Ride, exploring why capable riders can lose confidence and how the brain can change the meaning it has attached to riding.

But qualifications and experience are only useful if they translate into good work with the person sitting in front of you.
My role is to understand what is happening, work at the level where that response is being created and be straightforward with you about what I think will help.
“Kate is a top-rated therapist.”

Working with me.
You will find me straightforward, curious and non-judgmental.
You do not need to arrive with the right words, a diagnosis or a perfectly organised account of why you feel the way you do. And you do not have to tell me anything you would genuinely prefer to keep private.
We start with what is happening now, what you want to be different and the response that is getting in the way and if I believe I can help, I will explain how. If I don't believe I am the right person for the problem, I will tell you that too.
Begin with a conversation.
The initial consultation gives us the opportunity to understand what is happening and decide whether working together is the right next step.
The consultation fee is redeemable against your first therapy session if you decide to proceed.
The BWRT Creed
Registered BWRT Practitioners adhere rigidly to this creed and will seek professional guidance from senior BWRT Mentors where they deem it to be advisable or necessary.
The BWRT ethos is that the wellbeing of the client is paramount and therefore the BWRT Practitioner will ensure a constancy of demeanour and diligent application of their skills in the pursuit of that wellbeing.
The BWRT Practitioner knows that nobody can control what they think or how they feel, only their response to such thoughts or feelings, and is therefore non-judgmental. They will apply their skills appropriately and without criticism to relieve distress and foster wellbeing.
Everybody has thoughts and feelings they prefer to keep to themselves and the BWRT Practitioner will not insist they be divulged. On very rare occasions, it is beneficial to explore such thoughts and feelings, but the Practitioner will make every effort to avoid that need.
